In May 2018 Vira Slywotzky founded the concert series Vira & Friends with the aim of bringing people together to enjoy the live performance of songs written for voice and piano. Since then Vira & Friends has grown into a mobile musical variety show that seeks to expand audiences for classical music and to provide a platform for the programming of works by creators traditionally neglected by the Western canon.

Vira & Friends has presented performances in New York City at St. John’s in the Village, The Church of the Village, Opera America, The Duplex and on Governors Island. Vira & Friends has also presented shows in New England, the Hudson Valley, Florida and Michigan.

Since the March 2022 full scale invasion of Ukraine, Vira & Friends has helped raise over $200,000 for Ukraine related charities including the Center for Civil Liberties and Razom for Ukraine through the program “This Ukrainian American Life” and other musical endeavors. 

Vira & Friends is now a non-profit corporation under the auspices of Ukrainian American Educational Center of Boston, a 501(c)(3).
